Acer Aspire 8920 is an laptop that has a good performance.Acer has recently launched their Gemstone Blue series, which includes multimedia-oriented laptops at a surprisingly affordable prices. In general, laptops with 17 or 19-inch LCD screens are considered large. But the Aspire 8920G is the larger of the two with an 18.4-inch screen (the 6920 has a 16.4-inch screen). Probably one of the biggest notebooks to grace Indian shores, you won't be able to take your eyes off it. The power button, media control touch panel, hinge and Acer logo on the lid are all backlit. The 8920G has an unusual full high-definition LCD screen.

We watched full high-def clips and trailers courtesy the Blu-ray drive and experienced breathtakingly clear audio as well as visual quality. The notebook features a full sized keyboard (with separate number keypad) and a touch sensitive media console called CineDASH, using which you can control various media apps simultaneously. Though the touchpad works great, the texture on the track pad gets irritating at times; it hampers smooth movement of your finger.
Specifications include an Intel Core 2 duo processor (Penryn) running at 2.5 GHz, 3 GB RAM and NVIDIA 9650M GS graphics with 512 MB dedicated memory. This makes it capable of running almost all newer games at high resolution except the ever-elusive Crysis. The only trouble we faced while playing games such asU and Crysis was that the notebook wasn't able to run these games A at full 1920 x 1080 resolution. Playing games at this resolution requires substantially more power which can be easily achieved with a desktop. You also get a plethora of accessories bundled, like the media center remote control and a slim VOIP phone that sits in the Express card slot.
We ran our usual benchmarks on this machine and got terrific results. The notebook scored of 3732 in 3D Mark test which is impressive especially when compared to gaming notebooks such as the Asus G 1 for which you have to pay Rs 90,000. In PC Mark, it managed a score of 6043 PCmarks which is again extraordinary. Though this battery gave us a lifetime of just two hours and 40 minutes (which might not sound great) on full charge, but considering the display, awesome graphics and hardware that this notebook has, the score was good.
